A house represents more than a shelter. The structure it is where memories created, families grow, lives gain meaning and people can embark in their version of the American Dream. While each individual may have a different interpretation of how their home should look in order to achieve said goals there are certain amenities needed in order to create a happy home.
Real estate listing website Trulia.com recently conducted a survey of 1,200 American couples (married or living together) in regards to what home features they thought would best "enhance their relationship." Survey participants were asked to rank 11 potential home features and based on their findings, harmony can come from the bedroom, extra elbow room and decent storage space. Instead of buying a house on price alone, it is a much wiser idea to look for a home including the following features in order to keep the peace.
King Size Bed Space Ranks #1
While large homes are no longer chic, spacious bedrooms still rule the roost. Eighteen percent of male survey participants and 19 percent of female survey takers agreed that a spacious bedroom large enough to hold a king sized bed is crucial to making a home a happy one. While the survey did not go into the reasons why, anyone who has ever experienced a blissful night's sleep in an over sized bed can attest to the benefit of plenty of elbow room between the sheets.
The 76 x 80 inches provided by a king size bed can easily accommodate two people. All that space will allow individuals to find their perfect sleeping position without having to worry about disturbing their partner. However, because all the extra inches needed for the mattress, headboard and additional bedding accoutrement ,a large bedroom is to hold all the comfy goodness.
Storage Space #2
Creating a new home with a life partner is a series of negotiations. While Bob may demand on contributing his prized collection of plastic drinking cups to the mix, Sally may think that the devices may not completely match her vintage Fiestaware. To keep the bliss, Bob may acquiesce and agree to keeping his cups out of site and will feel significantly better if the sentimental plastics are stored safely at home. It is that type of thinking that has encouraged survey participants to long for extra storage space as a way to keep the bliss.
Twenty-one percent of women and 13 percent of men placed storage space as the #2 feature for keeping household harmony, and those who lack that feature can certainly attest to the value of the amenity.
Bright and Airy Spaces #3
Light, sunshine and circulation are a favorable attribute in any home and 16 percent of women and 14 percent of men agreed it was an essential feature for cohabitation bliss. The feature can be applied anywhere in a home from kitchen remodels with open air design, decorating with the right color or converting a traditional formal living room into a more inviting informal great room featuring a combination of family room and dining area. Ultimately, it is the sense of clean lines and extra living space that can help keep a co-habitation scenario a happy one.
Couples thinking about securing a mortgage and entering the real estate market can do very well for themselves by looking for homes including the highly ranked features, following some sage advice and making sure the property selected in a neighborhood that will work with their life style choices.
