About the Research
University of Michigan psychologists, Nansook Park and Christopher Peterson, spent their time evaluating personality trait information of 47,369 people originally from the 50 largest cities in the nation to help aid in the advancement of “urban psychology.” Based on the information gathered the researchers were able to make two basic distinctions; head strength and heart strength.According to the synopsis published on Infrastructurist.com, individuals who were head centric were considered to be creative, open-minded, curious and had a love for learning. Those who ranked as heart strong had personality traits leaning towards appreciation, empathy, teamwork, hope, constraint and faith.
Head Cities
Based on the findings presented by the team effort, the following cities were declared to be the best head cities:
- The City by the Bay, San Francisco, CA.
- The City of Angeles, Los Angeles, CA.
- Oakland, CA, the turf of Super Bowl XI winners, the Oakland Raiders.
- Albuquerque, NM, a city that the Partridge Family paid a musical homage to.
- Crossroads of the Pacific, Honolulu, HI.
- The Emerald City Seattle, WA.
- Austin, TX, where residents are encouraged to "stay weird".
- America's Finest City, San Diego, CA.
- The Big Apple, New York, NY.
- El Paso, TX, the Star City of Texas.
Those categorized as creative thinkers are encouraged to go into professional fields such as film directing, teaching, catering design and writing. The above cities are considered to be magnets for people that are dedicated to pursuing the creative path for earning a living.
Heart Cities
